Golf equipment will be carried free of charge on both international and domestic routings, even if exceeding the free baggage allowance.

The sports equipment must consist of no more than the following items. If additional items are to be carried apart from those listed below, then excess baggage charges will be levied.
  • A golf bag containing golf clubs, balls and a pair of golfing shoes
Sports equipment on domestic flights operated by Aegean

On domestic flights, golf equipment is included in your free baggage allowance. For carriage to be approved, you need to contact our Reservations Department in advance of your journey to notify us that you will be carrying the items in question and to inform us of their dimensions.

Golf Bags Aer Lingus carry Golf Bags as checked baggage: Golfing equipment may consist of one golf bag containing golf clubs and golf equipment. A maximum of 1 golf bag per person is allowed. On US flights where the Piece Concept is applied and golfing equipment is within the passenger's normal baggage allowance, there is no extra charge. If the Golfing Equipment is in addition to the passenger's baggage allowance, normal excess baggage charges using the Piece Concept apply

There is no charge for golf bags for passengers travelling in Business Class.

For all other flights a maximum of 1 golf bag weighing up to 15kgs (33 lbs) per person is permitted and a fee of €30 or equivalent payable online prior to departure or a fee of €40 or equivalent, payable at the airport on the day of departure applies. This fee is charged each-way on outbound and return journeys. Excess baggage charges apply if the golf bag is in excess of 15kgs (33 lbs).

Groups travelling with golf clubs should contact Aer Lingus directly to make special arrangements and to ensure there is enough space in the aircraft hold to carry the golf equipment.

If you are travelling on Aer Lingus regional flights the maximum golf bags allowed is 12 golf bags per flight. This is all subject to availability on the day.

These can be transported by the airline as long as there is space available.  On routes to or from the United states, the charges for each additional piece are:

Weight less than or equal to 50 lb / 23 kg and dimensions of up to 62 inches / 158 cm:  US$ 100 for each bag in addition to the two allowed per passenger.

Golf Clubs: the following items are permitted as long as they are well packed and secured; golf club bag, 14 clubs, 12 balls, a pair of golf shoes.

By Weight: For domestic flights - equipments are no charge. Additional Equipments: normal charge for baggage excess. More than 15 kg or additional equipments: normal charge for excess baggage.

Per Pieces: Equipments are considered as part of the baggage allowance with no cost. In case it exceeds the baggage allowance or there are additional equipments: normal charge for excess equivalent to a basic fare.

In addition to the free baggage allowance, sports baggage up to 32 kg (70 lbs), as detailed below, may also be carried as a separate item of baggage subject to the terms and conditions shown. Any weight exceeding this limit will be subject to an excess baggage charge.

Silver/Gold Card or topbonus Service Card » holders can also check in one item of sports baggage weighing up to 32kg (70 lbs) free of charge, subject to prior registration.

Bookings for sports and special baggage can be made while making the online booking or subsequently up to 48 hours before departure under Optional Extras » (provided the reservation has been booked via airberlin.com) or via our Service-Centre ». There you will also receive information about transporting musical instruments, oversized baggage, breakable baggage, etc.

Golf Equipment (Golf bag, clubs and golf balls) - If registration takes place up until 48 hours to takeoff, fee is $95 USD. If registration takes place at the check-in desk, fee is $175 USD.

Golf Clubs

Provided it weighs less than 23 kg (50 lb), one (1) golf bag containing approximately 14 clubs, 12 golf balls and one (1) pair of golf shoes counts as one piece of baggage towards the maximum number of checked bags allowed by your fare type.

Golf bags may contain more clubs and balls; however, overweight fees will apply if the weight of the bag is over 23 kg (50 lb).

Waivers / Charges

No oversize charge applies to golf bags.

All other additional checked baggage rules apply.

Items must be suitably packed in rigid and/or hard shell container specifically designed for shipping. If otherwise packaged, the items will be accepted only with a signed limited release form.

Checked Baggage Allowance 

The maximum weight of each piece of checked baggage shall not exceed 45kg (99 lbs). On all international flights, the weight of each piece of checked baggage normally shall not exceed 32kg (70 lbs), and the baggage weighing between 32kg and 45kg shall meet the relevant requirements of the landing airport and onward carrier.

The total linear dimensions of each piece of checked baggage shall not exceed 203cm and not be less than 60 cm.

Baggage exceeding the free checked baggage allowance may be carried as checked baggage after the excess baggage charge is paid; baggage exceeding the weight or dimension limit cannot be carried as checked baggage, but cargo.

Kits containing only 1 Golf bag and a pair of shoes will be charged equal to 6 Kilos (13 lbs) of excess baggage per kit. Only 1 such kit may be pooled in the Free Baggage Allowance of the class of service used. If not included in the Free Baggage Allowance, such charges will be applicable. Any weight of such golf kit in excess of 15 Kilos (13 lbs) will be charged normal excess baggage charge per kilo.

Golfing Equipment

Included in the baggage allowance. (When in excess of the baggage allowance the charge is $50 per piece)

Note:

Sporting equipments must be securely encased to avoid protrusions.  Golfing Equipment consisting of one golf bag containing not more than fourteen golf clubs, twelve golf balls and one pair of golf shoes will be included in determining the passenger free baggage allowance.  Golf bags which are in excess of the free baggage allowance will be charged at the normal excess baggage rate.  Maximum allowed weight is 50 lb / 23 kg for both free allowance and excess baggage.  Any piece which exceeds 70lbs/32kgs or the total outside dimensions of 62 inches must be shipped via air freight.

Sporting Equipment

Sporting equipment is defined as a bag or piece of equipment obviously dedicated to the pursuit of sporting activity.

The following items may be considered as one standard piece of baggage:

  • One golf bag containing golf clubs and one pair of shoes

For travel in New Zealand the checked baggage allowance is 1 piece up to 23kg.

    > Domestic New Zealand Flights

    Sporting equipment is counted as a piece of baggage therefore once the allowance has been exceeded domestic piece charges will apply.

    > International Flights

    Items of sporting equipment - for example golf clubs, skis, snowboards, bicycles and surfboards - are included as part of the standard piece allowance. The first piece of sporting equipment over the allowance will be charged at 50% of the first bag rate. Subsequent pieces will be charged at standard excess rates for baggage.

    Oversized Baggage/Bulky Items Charge

    1. Bulky items such as surfboards and golf bags will be weighed along with passenger's check-in luggage.
    2. If the check-in luggage and bulky item weigh more than the 23 kg (50 lbs), the overweight bags will be charged excess baggage charges and applicable bulky items fee below.
    3. If the combined weight is 23 kg (50 lbs), the bulky item will only be charged the bulky item fees below. ($50 if flight originates out of US)
    4. Any piece (Oversize Baggage/Bulky item) exceeding 292cm (115in) in dimensions will not be accepted as checked baggage.

    Sporting Equipment

    In addition to the free baggage allowance, you are allowed to carry specific sporting equipment free of charge as shown on the grid below. Please note that only one item (listed liste as free in the grid) will be transported at no charge to a maximum of 20 kg (44 lb.) per passenger. Personal baggage and/or other sporting equipment cannot be substituted for the free sporting equipment allowance. Should the combined weight of your free sport item and personal baggage exceed the free allowance per person, excess baggage fees will apply.

    For any non-approved sporting equipment, excess baggage fees will apply if your free checked baggage allowance is exceeded.

    ** The sporting equipment allowance applies on all flights except to/from Haiti.

    For passengers travelling on a package holiday please be aware that a charge for the land transfer of sporting equipment may apply in some destinations.

    All sporting equipment is accepted with a signed Limited Release form, releasing Air Transat from any claim in regards to damage. It is important that passengers make sure items are covered by their personal insurance. Consult your travel or insurance agent.

    Golfing Equipment

    Effective March 1, 2012, golf clubs in a hooded or soft-sided golf bag will require the customer to sign a limited liability release form. Golf clubs transported in a hard plastic travel case will be accepted as regular baggage. Items will be subject to standard 1st, 2nd, and excess baggage fees, but will be exempt from oversized and overweight charges.

    Effective April 10, 2012, a charge of $50 per item each way will be incurred for items weighing more than 50 pounds.

    Alaska Airlines will accept the following sporting equipment items as checked baggage provided each piece is properly packed in a soft or hard sided case designed specifically for the sporting equipment piece.

    Each piece of sporting equipment will be considered a checked bag with all applicable fees applied per person, per bag, per segment. All Baggage Fees are non-refundable. No baggage more than 100 lbs. will be accepted.

    When in a container acceptable to Carrier, the following sporting equipment will be accepted for transport:

    Check-In Baggage Allowance (Free of charge)

    There are two different systems of measurement for calculating the "free baggage allowance" -- the Piece System and the Weight System. (The system is determined by the origin and destination) Generally, for U.S. routes, baggage is measured by Piece, and for routes other than the U.S. , baggage is measured by Weight.     Sporting Equipment in category "Small" is part of your free baggage allowance, provided it is within the stated limits. Are you member of HON Circle or Senator? Then you can take a golf bag without extra charge.

    If you are travelling in Business or Flexible Economy you can take a piece of sporting equipment or other exceptional item of baggage as part of your baggage allowance as long as it is within your total allowance.

    Fare Type:

    Business, Flexible Economy (UK, ROI and HAJ from LHR) - Free if within baggage allowance. If in excess of baggage allowance: £30/€34 fixed fee, per item, per sector.

    Economy (BMI operated routes only) - A flat rate of £30 per item, per sector will be applied.  If the item is over 20kg but under 32kg then an additional £30 per item, per direction will apply.

    Sporting goods may be included as part of the free allowance in Economy for flights from London Heathrow to/from Casablanca and Marrakech.

    Sporting Equipment

    There is no additional allowance for sporting equipment, but it can be carried free of charge as part of your free checked baggage allowance.

    If the total number of bags is more than your free checked allowance, you will need to pay extra bag charges.

    Any bag that is heavier than the free weight allowance may incur an overweight baggage charge, payable at check-in.

    Golf

    We will accept golfing equipment as checked baggage providing it does not exceed the maximum dimensions and weight restrictions*. If the total number of checked bags is more than your free checked allowance, you will need to pay extra bag charges.

    Golfing equipment will only be accepted if it is packed appropriately in a recognised bag or case to safeguard against damage.

    *Maximum size: 190cm x 75cm x 65cm (75in x 29.5in x 25.5in).
    Maximum weight: 23kg (51 lb). Bags between 23-32kg (51-70 lb) will be accepted but a heavy bag charge may apply.

    When properly packaged, CanJet Airlines will accept one of the following sports items as a free checked baggage allowance piece if it fits within the weight and dimension limitations and is under 20 kg (44 lb). Fees will be applied to certain items, please see below for details:

    Baggage Allowance/Acceptance:

    Checked Baggage: We accept 1 piece of checked baggage per ticketed passenger with a maximum weight of 50 lbs. and size of 62 linear inches (157 cm) (total length + width + height) plus 1 gate checked bag sized to pass through TSA screening and which would fit into the overhead bin of a connecting flight jet aircraft.

    Excess Baggage: Excess baggage is transported on a space available basis and additional charges may apply. If we place an excess tag on one or more of your bags it does not necessarily mean the bag will not get on the flight.

    Overweight Baggage: We cannot accept baggage weighing over 70 lbs.

    Golf Bags: We accept golf bags however, we can not be liable for loss or damage to equipment in open golf bags.

    Sporting/Musical Items

    We allow certain types of sporting equipment and musical instruments which may form part of your free checked baggage allowance. The maximum weight allowed per items is 23kgs (50lbs) and maximum dimensions (H+W+L) is 157cms (62 ins). Oversized sporting equipment and musical instruments will be permitted as excess baggage on a standby basis, at the applicable excess baggage charge. Excess baggage will not be accepted to/from Venezuela.

    If you are connecting from another airline to Caribbean Airlines, our carry-on and checked baggage policy applies.

    Packing Guide

    • Equipment must be securely packed in a travel case specifically designed for that piece of equipment.
    • Be guided by the weight and dimensions allowed for equipment we carry at no extra costs.
    • Overweight bags are permitted up to 32kg.
    • Oversized bags are not permitted; with the exception of oversized sporting equipment and musical instruments which will only be accepted as excess baggage on a space available basis, at the applicable excess baggage charge.
    Sporting equipment and musical instruments within the maximum linear dimensions are allowed at no extra costs, once part of your free checked baggage allowance with the exception of Surfboards.

    Golf Equipment: Accepted golfing equipment consists of 1 golf bag, up to 14 golf clubs, up to 12 golf balls, and 1 pair of golf shoes.

    Excess Baggage Fee for Specialty Items

    Golfing Equipment

    Piece System:
    • Golfing equipment consists of one golf bag and one pair of golf shoes.
    • If in excess of the normal free allowance, shall be charged 50% of the applicable charge.
    • This special charge is limited to one golf bag per passenger; for any golf bag in excess thereof, the normal charge shall apply.
    Weight System:
    • Golfing equipment consists of one golf bag containing not more than 14 clubs and 12 balls, and one pair of golf shoes, weighing not more than 15 kg in total.
    • The charge shall be equal to the applicable rate of 6 kg of excess baggage when the above articles are not included in the normal free allowance.
    • When the above articles are included in the normal free allowance, any overweight resulting from such inclusion shall be assessed at the above special charge (6 kg) or the normal excess baggage charge, whichever is lower.
    • For any weight of the golfing equipment in excess of 15 kg, the normal excess baggage charge shall apply.

    • Golfing equipment contained in one golf bag with one pair of golf shoes, and not weighing more than 15kg (33 lbs), shall be assessed at a special golf excess baggage rate equivalent to 6kg  (13 lbs) of the applicable excess baggage rate between the points travel.

    Continental is not liable for damage to golf equipment that is not contained in a hard-sided case.

    If applicable, the first or second fee applies to golf equipment.

    Golfing equipment containers measuring more than 62 inches (157 cm) L+H+W that contain other items in addition to or in place of appropriate golf equipment will be subject to an oversize fee.

    Golf Equipment

    Golf equipment is defined as consisting of a bag containing a pair of golf shoes plus a set of golf clubs.

    • Admittance to the flight - Golf clubs must be firmly secured inside the bag, in such a way as to avoid disturbances or damage when boarding or disembarking and during the flight.

    • Allowance* - Golf equipment is considered to be within the passenger's baggage allowance. If, as well as this piece a further piece or pieces are added, thus exceeding the number of pieces which can be carried free of charge, it will be considered as excess baggage.

      In accordance with ANAC (Brazilian Civil Aviation) regulations – for journeys originating in Brazil (outbound and return) the following will apply:
      If it is within the passenger's baggage allowance there is no charge. If the passenger is taking more that one piece of golf equipment, a charge of 60 USD will be made. If the passenger is carrying 2 pieces of baggage and 2 pieces of golf equipment, the first will be charged at 60USD, and the second at 120USD.

    *If the operating company is other than Iberia, you should consult them regarding their particular conditions of carriage and baggage allowance. On IB5000 (Vueling) point-to-point flights or on journeys where IB5000 flights connect with another IB5000, the cost will be € 45 per leg.

    When traveling to/from another country, the free baggage allowance consists of 2 pieces of baggage not exceeding 25kg. (55lbs.) each and not exceeding outer linear dimensions of 2.73 meters each (107.56 inches). Linear dimensions are calculated by adding dimensions of length, width and height. Combined total weight must not exceed 50kg or 110 lbs. or excess baggage charges will apply.
    For domestic flight, the Airline will issue a baggage claim check for each piece of luggage that is checked-in, which in turn will be handed in by the Passenger to the Airline’s airport personnel when picking up the baggage at the destination.

    A golf bag counts as a single piece of luggage and may weigh up to 23 kg (50.5 lbs). You only pay an excess baggage fee if it weighs more, or if you bring an extra golf bag.

    Sport and special baggage for tickets issued from 1 June 2011

    We want you to be able to continue your sports activities even when you are travelling. For this reason, Lufthansa offers special excess baggage rates for sports baggage (including bikes). Please note that you need to register sports baggage under the reservation hotline preferably within 24 hours after you have made your booking. Because of limited capacities and different regulations with partner airlines, we cannot definitely guarantee for your booking that special or excess baggage will be accepted.

    Sports baggage is divided into three categories: Small, Medium and Large. You will find the relevant rates and exceptions for the categories for both baggage options in the lists below. Any pieces of baggage that do not appear in the lists will be charged according to their weight and/or size for the corresponding category. 

    Sporting Equipment where the 'Piece Concept’ applies 

    Under the piece concept, sports baggage in the ‘small’ category is included within the free baggage allowance and will only be charged for if the number of bags exceeds the permitted number. Moreover, one additional bag of ski equipment is allowed in all classes (except on North Atlantic routes). All other sports equipment are subject to a charge.

    For golfing equipment, you will be charged a standard excess baggage charge of 6 kg (13 lbs) which is applicable for the first 15 kg (33 lbs) of the equipment.  For every kg beyond the first 15 kg, normal excess baggage charges will apply.  Excess baggage charges vary by zone of travel.  As examples:

    • If you are travelling from Singapore to Malaysia and your golfing equipment weighs 20 kg, you will be charged a total of USD88 (at USD8 / kg).  This is calculated as follows: 8 x 6 (for the first 15 kg) + 8 x 5 (for the next 5 kg) = USD88. 
    • If you are travelling from Europe to Singapore, the amount charged will be USD550 (at USD50 / kg).  This is calculated as follows: 50 x 6 (for the first 15kg) + 50 x 5 (for the next 5kg) = USD550.

    This special charge is only applicable to one set of golf equipment per customer.

    One set of golf equipment is deemed to comprise:

    • 1 golf bag containing not more than 14 golf clubs
    • Maximum of 12 golf balls
    • 1 pair of golf shoes
    • Golf tees
    • Any additional golf sets shall be charged according to the standard excess baggage charges.

    For travel to/from the United States, each golf set will be considered as one piece of luggage under the piece system, and any excess baggage will be charged.

    Golf Clubs are considered to be a regular sized golf bag containing 14 clubs, 12 balls and one pair of golf shoes.     One set of golf equipment, first pair of water ski/ski equipment can be carried free in our flights. Second pair of these items and other items like surf, tents, inflatable boats, scuba equipments, empty dive tank, parachute, ice hockey, paraglider, hagglider, canoe, archery, mountain climbing, rafting equipments and bicycle are considered exemption of the passenger's baggage weight allowance and they are priced according to Turkish Airlines' special baggage tariff.

    If the sports equipment mentioned above exceeds 32 kg (70 lbs) limit, a piece fee will apply for the second or more piece of equipment.

    In code share flights if ticketing is done by another airline it applies that airline's sports equipment tariff and rules.

    Sports Baggage 

    Sport baggage accepted for carriage includes the following:
    • Golf set: One golf set includes one golf bag containing maximum 14 golf clubs, 12 golf balls, T-shaped devices with total weight of not more than 20 kg. Equipment other than above-mentioned items shall not be regarded as golf set.
    The request for transport of Sport Baggage must be booked in advance at least 24 hours prior to the flight’s estimated time of departure (ETD).
     
    Sport Baggage must be packed in a neat manner without sharp-pointed angles to ensure safe transport.

    • Golf bag in a hard-sided golf travel bag provided by the guest, including clubs, balls, and shoes. We do not recommend soft-sided golf bags, and cannot accept liability for soft-sided travel bags or their contents. Golf bags without a traveling case are not accepted.
    The following equipment is subject to a charge of $50.00 as checked baggage regardless of class of service, in lieu of the appropriate checked bag fee. Additional overweight charges apply if the item exceeds 50 pounds.
